In this article, I’ll walk through how I used ChatGPT as part of my design workflow to develop logo concepts for the University of Florida Healthy Gator Coalition, an initiative that gathers campus departments and organizations to promote the overall health and well-being of students, faculty, and staff.
Problem
The Healthy Gator Coalition’s logo was outdated and needed a refresh. The new identity needed to better align with University of Florida’s branding, reflect the mission, and catered towards its target audience.
Prompts
I gave ChatGPT its role. I then provided the project brief, tone, and target audience.

Here is the first draft generated by ChatGPT:

The text placement did not align with University of Florida's branding standard so I shared a couple logo examples. Then, i asked to generate more concepts that are "simple and engaging."

Logos generated by ChatGPT
I then asked ChatGPT to generate more concepts after a series of back and forth conversation. Here are all of the logos generated by ChatGPT:

Chose top four that best aligned with the project brief
From there, I made my refinements such as changing the color and adding text that aligns with UF's brand guidelines on Adobe Illustrator.

Original vs final logo concept
After discussion and feedback from our stakeholder, this is one of the concept logo that was chosen. The final logo is still in development stage and will share it once it's published.

Reflection and tips
Using AI as a creative partner in my design workflow has significantly improved my efficiency. What once took three to four days can now be accomplished in just two hours. My process has evolved from finding inspiration online → sketching → Adobe Illustrator to collaborating with LLMs → refining the designs in Adobe Illustrator.
My biggest takeaway? Start with a clear goal and provide as much context as possible. Share visual references, describe your ideas in words or do both. The more clearly you communicate your vision, the more effectively AI can help bring it to life.
The biggest question I’m grappling with is: Does AI diminish the value of logo design? If AI can significantly shorten the design process, how much would a client be willing to pay a logo designer?
