OBJECTIVE
TEDxWartburgCollege is an event held annually on campus. This event is to gather the Ideas Worth Spreading from the Cedar Valley community.
My role in this organization was the Marketing and Communications Director. My duty was to oversee a team of two students: a social media coordinator and a graphic designer. I was also responsible for making sure the design materials were according to the TED brand guidelines. Throughout the Fall semester, I worked closely with the executive team to turn this event into success.
THEME
After discussions with the student committee team, the theme of this event is futuristic, with red and black colors incorporated to follow TED branding guidelines. I then came up with a few sketches inspired by the movie Tron (2010) and sought feedback from the team.
MOODBOARD
To get familiarized with TED's brand guidelines, we studied how other TED events incorporated the guidelines into a theme. Here is a snapshot of a few examples on print and digital marketing materials:

130 t-shirt were sold to increase sales and visibility
To increase our event promotion, we designed the t-shirt and sold it to the staff, faculty, and students. We sold total of 130 t-shirts in total. Innovation requires innovative mindset. Therefore, the design team uses three head in different patterns to represent Gen X,Y,Z.

Brochure design
The brochure design was designed by me using Adobe InDesign. I was inspired by TEDx brochure collection from Behance. The font and color palette were set according to TED brand guidelines.
PERSONAL REFLECTION
What did I learn?
Teamwork
As the saying goes, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." by Hellen Kepler.
This event will not be successful without the contribution of each member. We bring each member's strengths and skillset to the table.
Leadership
I was responsible for managing two students in the marketing team. The key to leadership is to be confident, humble myself, and set a good example to others.
Communication
We have weekly team meetings with the event committee and the design team to provide updates. We also used GroupMe and Google Docs to keep track of everyone's progress and avoid any miscommunications.
Challenges
The most challenging part was setting up a team to meet with the design team on top of the meetings with the committee members. Due to the different schedules of the design team, we had to meet late at night to discuss the work. To solve this, we create a shared document to track our progress and communicate on GroupMe.
Success
The most successful part was seeing the audience using the final product: name tags, t-shirts, event brochures,
take-home posters, mugs, and postcards. With the success of our marketing efforts, 102 participants participated in the event. The college decided to continue this organization for the following year.
